Computing equipment collection and donation campaign for the creation of Integrated Multimedia Libraries (IML) in schools in Africa (Cote d'Ivoire and Burundi)

Period : Continuously

Since 2019, Engaged For Children is implementing projects aimed at improving the education and living conditions of vulnerable children and adolescents in Canada and internationally.

Among these projects, two (2) projects related to the development of cultural leadership and the strengthening of student and youth learning resources are priorities. These are the following projects that started in the second half of 2019:

1. "Cultural and educational networking between young students and teachers in Canada and those in Cote d'Ivoire and Burundi", submitted to funding from donors (government, secteur privé, international partners and individuals).
The purpose of the project is to develop and promote cultural and educational learning network between Canada and two countries of intervention where the nation-wide culture is linked to that of some of the black groups in Canada. It is particularly about connecting young students and teachers in Canada with young students and teachers from targeted African countries for cultural, educational and leadership development exchanges. The strategy is to commit Canadian students and teachers to make better use of Canadian culture to promote its values to other students and teachers, but also to learn about African cultures to better participate in the promotion of diversity and contribute to the fight against discrimination in their respective communities in Canada. It will be skills-sharing activities, educational and cultural experiences, with a focus on the use of information technology for leadership building sessions, performing arts and crafts activities on diverse cultures, sharing and training on educational strategies.

2. "Strengthening learning resources in literature and multimedia for digital education in primary and secondary schools in Cote d'Ivoire and Burundi"
This project aims to create library and multimedia rooms in primary schools with Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) resources and instructional books in Cote d'Ivoire and Burundi. These books and digital equipments (computers with internet access, televisions...) will improve reading resources and increase students' knowledge in FLN, mainly interest in reading and numeracy. Moreover, Reading Clubs will be set up in each school as part of this project.

For these projects, our organization is seeking financial and / or material support (donation in-kind) for the implementation. In particular, this computer and educational donations campaign for a total value of $ 90,000 Canadian dollars will help establish multimedia libraries with a capacity of 10 computers / tablets and more than 500 books per school in at least 15 schools targeted in both countries. In total, more than 10,000 students in Cote d'Ivoire and Burundi will have access to books to improve their reading skills, and computers to improve their knowledge through digital education and share their educational and cultural knowledge and experiences with young Canadian students.
